Johnneese Walter

What makes Johnneese Wildly Capable?

As the first woman to preach from Fairview Baptist Church’s pulpit, Rev. Walter has inspired meaningful change, uplifted families, and developed programs that enhance both spiritual and social well-being in OKC. Her leadership demonstrates the profound impact one person can have in building a stronger, more connected, and compassionate community. SHAWNTAY ALEXANDER

What does your typical day look like?

My day is usually spent taking care of the day-to-day operations of Fairview Baptist Church through finance and ministry. I also spend time with my husband, children, and grandchildren.

What makes you feel proud?

I’m not proud, I’m grateful! So, what makes me feel grateful? First of all, the fact that God has chosen me to be in a position to reach people through my life and testimony is an honor. Secondly, I’m grateful for the amazing legacy of my parents who have passed on, but live forever in my heart. Lastly, I’m grateful for a loving and supportive family and church family. I am a blessed woman!

What keeps you up at night?

I want to help as many people as possible, and when I’m not able to do that, it hurts me and disturbs my spirit!

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

My fear of failure. I don’t ever want to fail God or my family, and because of this fear, I may not try things that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My late mother, Dr. Patricia F. Reed. I was bullied growing up, but she would never allow me to remain in a state of pity. She would always tell me that I am loved and that God had a huge plan for my life. So, I couldn’t be down on myself and retreat; I had to stand tall and remember who I am, and whose I am!

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

The toxic treatment of women. Women have been created equal to men, not inferior to men. I want women to know that they are beautiful, they are brilliant, they are resourceful, they are resilient, they are enough, and they are loved by God... and that’s all that matters. Women don’t have to dumb themselves down in order to be seen or heard, but they can stand tall and demand the love and respect that is due!

What advice do you wish you could give your younger self? How might it have changed your course?

I wish I could give my younger self the same advice I give all women: you are enough! God created you for a specific purpose so hold your head up high and walk in your calling. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
