What makes you feel proud?
What makes me feel proud is the growth and development in people around me, whether it be a personal or team goal. It is especially rewarding when an individual or group had so much adversity through a journey and found self-discovery and growth after crossing the finish line. I feel proud when I can be a vessel for sharing joy or to ‘sit in the suck of things’ with someone and feel like it was meaningful to them.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My late mother has been the biggest influence in my life. Next to Christ, she was the most selfless example for me and she showed up for her family and friends. No matter what limited amount of time or money she had, she demonstrated that there is always someone fighting a tougher battle than we are.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
I feel like my biggest obstacles have been my greatest builders of strength and compassion. Caring for and supporting my mother while she had cancer and having two babies was a challenging season in life, especially when I want to be there 100 percent for the most important people in my life.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
A year from now, I would hope to be more compassionate, curious, and joyful. I hope I can grow in knowing my worth and power, accept my imperfections, and embrace both my limitations and possibilities.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received was through Stephen R. Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Specifically, be proactive and take control of your own actions and responses. Recognize that you have the power to choose how you react to situations. Also, seek first to understand, then be understood. Listen actively and empathetically. Understand others’ perspectives before expressing your own.
