Jemi Brown

What makes Jemi Wildly Capable?

Jemi is a survivor and became wildly successful recently with a new career, almost completed her bachelors degree, and all that while being a busy mom of two kiddos. I cannot think of anyone else who deserves this recognition more. Jemi and I completed the ReMerge program together where she is still very involved.” CIERRA EASTEP

What makes you feel proud?

I can meet my own needs. I am capable of giving my children a life that we can enjoy, and I know that I have a relationship with God that will see me through. I know who I am. I discovered what my values are and I live in them unapologetically. I haven’t always been like this, and I worked really hard to get here. I am a survivor of domestic violence and I am coming up on six years clean from heroin. Making the choice to get clean was easy but figuring out how to rebuild my life was terrifying, I found a relationship with God and have walked in faith while He has opened doors for me that I could have never imagined. In these last six years I completed treatment at Jordan’s Crossing and graduated ReMerge, Hope House OKC, CFSI, and OSU-OKC. I am currently working on my bachelor’s in Social Work at East Central University and plan to graduate in spring of 2025. I have dreams to get my master’s and then become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I just want to continue to learn so I can help more people. I don’t know if I want different, I just want more – more compassion, kindness, understanding, and training.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Myself; the lack of self worth and self love stood in my way for so long. Figuring out how to love myself and finding my self worth allowed me to get out of my own way. In my personal life I have gone through quite a few painful situations, and I have taken all that pain and laced it into the foundation I built my recovery on. Some pain has ossified into my bones and fortified my foundation, while there are still a few pieces that are as raw as the day it was carved into my soul, but I have learned to sit with the deepest parts of me and respond with compassion. I used to turn to heroin to soothe the pain but turning pain into purpose has become my super power.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Oklahoma recently lost a really special place when Jordan’s Crossing closed. This state needs more places where moms can heal alongside their children. Trauma happens when we separate babies from their mothers, and that needs to end.
