Millicent Gillogly
What makes Millicent Wildly Capable?
I nominated Millicent because… have you ever met a woman who has so much grace and class that she gives you a picture of your desired future? That is Millicent. She is giving, wise and present as a partner and a mother. Women who can live a life of faithfulness are a rare breed today. In a world with fewer and fewer women of character, I’m grateful to know that it is possible to stay steady and whole. – JESSICA RIMMER
What does your typical day look like?
My typical day starts with a quiet morning with my husband, filled with raisin toast, coffee, and a Bible reading plan. Then I might read the paper or study for the lesson I will be teaching to kids at church on Wednesday and Sunday. A few times a week, I meet with young women over coffee for a life-coaching session. Quilting is my other passion, so I often retreat to my quilting studio for one-on-one time with my sewing machine.
What makes you feel proud?
Our two daughters and the life paths they have chosen. They are both strong in their faith, committed to their families, and serve others well.
What keeps you up at night?
Usually I sleep like a rock. What keeps me awake recently are the challenges we are experiencing in our classrooms with children who have high and varied needs. What do I need to learn and change so that I can meet and respond to their needs? That’s what keeps me awake.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
I have been very blessed that I have had very few life obstacles. The biggest challenge I had growing up was that I stuttered badly. I took speech my senior year of high school and the teacher, Madge Quigley, helped me conquer stuttering. It changed my life.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
In a year, I hope I have learned more about how to better meet the needs of the kids in my classroom so that they can experience knowing God better.
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
Housing instability for families is a huge issue in our community that I would like to see solved.
What advice do you wish you could give your younger self? How might it have changed your course?
I would like to tell my younger self to listen more, judge less, slow down, and learn better. I don’t know if any of that would have changed my course, but it might have made life better for those around me.
