What does your typical day look like?

Currently I am overseeing a campaign to decrease stigma around maternal substance use disorder, Tough As A Mother, through Evolution Foundation. My typical day consists of connections. I connect with our Resource Navigators and with potential and exciting partners. I research current trends. I attend meetings and trainings. Connections!

What makes you feel proud?

That I have made a difference in the field of addiction. That people learn from their mistakes and become who God created them to be. To see people when they get that light bulb moment that makes them realize shame does not hold them.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My mother. Her spirit, her love for people, her willingness to go beyond herself to fill a need. Her capacity to love and forgive. Her decision not to judge.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Myself. To not look at who the world sees but to keep my eyes on the girl God created. When I see myself through His eyes, life is limitless!

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

Our world is missing love. The most important command that we have been given is to love. It has been a struggle trying to meet this need — to just love. My hope is that I would have figured out how to pass that along, to make loving each other as easy as saying we love the Lord.

What advice do you wish you could give your younger self? How might it have changed your course?

I don’t think I can. The June I am now is because of those mistakes and missteps. The woman I am — with my history, scars, happiness and joy —is because of who my younger self was. Praise God, I came through!
