What makes you feel proud?
I feel most proud when I see leaders uniting around a common goal. It’s deeply moving to witness reconciliation taking root within the body of Christ and to see leaders lead with humility as they steward their gifts and talents. It is profoundly satisfying to belong to a community that works selflessly to serve those who have no voice. I am proud of who we are becoming as a people and of the hope rising in our city.
What keeps you up at night?
The voices of the hungry, the homeless, the helpless, and the hopeless. What weighs on me is the thought that we, as leaders and people of faith, might grow so comfortable that we stop hearing those voices and fail to act. I believe God has entrusted us with both the responsibility and the privilege to respond with courage and compassion. What keeps me up is also what calls me forward: to keep listening, keep leading, and keep building a city where every voice matters.
What advice do you wish you could give your younger self? How might it have changed your course?
I would tell my younger self, “Stop being a chicken and just go for it! You already have everything you need to succeed.” It takes courage to change the world.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
The greatest influence on my life is Jesus Christ. He continually calls me higher and renews my vision, not only for this organization, but for my life as well. This gives me the courage to lead with clarity and compassion. His example encourages me daily to serve others and to lead well. As the mother of seven, my children also influence me to be the best version of myself as I watch them both struggle and triumph through life’s difficulties.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
My biggest obstacle has been my own mindset, struggling to believe that I am good enough, smart enough, and creative enough. Learning to truly internalize that I am fearfully and wonderfully made and already equipped with the gifts and talents needed to walk the path God has placed before me. This has allowed me to step fully into my purpose with the confidence that I am enough. Obstacles will always come, but it’s my response that determines whether they hold me back or move me forward.
