What makes you feel proud?
I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given, and I take pride in having embraced them fully. Whether it be participating in the Riversport Dragon Boat League or helping start initiatives that play a role in shifting cultural challenges, I am proud of many accomplishments.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My parents are some of the most profound influences in my life. Their unwavering love and support provided a bedrock of security and confidence. This foundation allowed me to not only flourish but also to grasp the concept of unconditional love as reflected in my faith and connection with God.
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
One of the big problems I’d like to help solve is ensuring every Oklahoma child has a loving family. While the number of children in government care has thankfully decreased from over 11,000 in 2015 to 5,971 today, the work isn’t done. My involvement with the 111Project and Safe Families reflects my commitment to creating a culture where there are more families waiting for children than children waiting for homes.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
For eight years, a rare blood disease threatened my sight. This fear of losing vision fueled a passion to “see” and experience as much as possible. Ironically, this challenge became a powerful gift, ingraining an attitude of thankfulness in all things.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Some of my favorite advice comes from two sources. The first, from Hunter S. Thompson, says: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’” This quote ignites a fire in me to embrace experiences, take chances, and push myself to the limit.
However, for me living a thrilling life needs a foundation of strong values, which I find in Micah 6:8: “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” This verse serves as my moral compass, reminding me to treat others fairly, act with compassion, and live a life that reflects my values.
