Meg Tebow
What makes Meg Wildly Capable?
Meg is gracious, faithful, and resilient. She possesses a wisdom well beyond her years, and I believe this has developed out of her life’s experiences. She is able to see the good in the hard, the possible when everything seems impossible, and the hope when all feels hopeless. She has been given an extra measure of grit and grace, and now she is using it to pursue a life of service to others. KYLIE LYONS
What makes you feel proud?
I am immensely proud of who I have become throughout my life’s experiences and using it to inspire and help others. Sharing my story – what I refer to as “test to testimony” – also makes me proud, as I see the numerous ways in which God has inspired me to make a positive impact in the midst of earthly challenges. I am proud of the tenacity I didn’t even know I possessed – and maybe the stubborn nature I have!
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
I was unable to walk for two-and-a-half years following an injury that I endured in my junior year of high school. What I thought would be a typical high school experience – dances, dates, college applications, etc. – turned into something entirely different. I did not understand why my injury and subsequent challenges took place, and it took some time for medical professionals, physical therapists, and even friends and family to recognize that even though we couldn’t pinpoint the reason for my continuous pain and inability to walk, something was wrong. Following numerous fruitless procedures and therapies, I underwent an exploratory surgery, where the surgeon identified the source of my pain and freed a compressed nerve trapped within my spinal disc that had prevented me from walking. When I awoke from surgery, the pain was gone; I rejoiced as I knew then that the most difficult part of my journey was over. The following day, I got up and walked with a walker. After that surgery, I devoted myself to getting stronger every day, and I share my story whenever possible.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad has always said that, despite life’s circumstances, you get to wake up and decide if you are going to have a good day or a bad day. This has always stuck with me, but it was more meaningful during the time I was desperate for my health to be restored. Although I have had plenty of bad days, challenges, and times when I felt like my struggles could easily swallow me, I hear a steady, small voice remind me that life is a gift. I hear my mother’s voice too, reminding me that all I need to do is take life one minute, one hour, one day at a time.
Throughout these last few years, I could have chosen to have bad day after bad day, but I chose positivity and faith, which carried me through every hard day and encouraged me to count my blessings in spite of the struggles. I am living out a life that someone else is currently longing and praying for, and I do not take that for granted.
