What makes you feel proud?
Watching people grow, including myself! Setting goals, achieving them, and looking back on where you come from is our life’s work. To the degree I’m doing that, I’m growing in wisdom, which can be shared with my family, friends, and community for their benefit. I love connecting deeply with others and sharing in their growth journey. It is an honor and a privilege.
What keeps you up at night?
I think a lot about whether I’m challenging myself enough to be ready for the next phase of my purpose. I also think a lot about whether I’m preparing my kids well to take on the challenges the world will throw at them, and whether I’m helping them confidently grow into who God made them to be.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope to grow more resolute in who I am becoming.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My faith in God is the guiding force in my life, but before that existed the way it does today, my mom was the biggest influence in my life. She always seems to know the right thing to do, the best way to stay connected with people she cares about, the best way to live life with intention, and the best way to live out your faith.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Learning to value my own voice was an incredible challenge. I’m a rule follower, so I like to find the safest path to any destination. As I’ve grown older I’ve learned that we’re all on our own paths with different scenery, and those walks of life are all valuable at the table, including mine. I can’t follow anyone to the path God made for me, so it was important for me to trust the process of becoming who I’m meant to be and allowing my voice to be heard, even in the learning process.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t let anything rule over you — whatever you choose, make sure you’re intentionally choosing it.
