Q&A WITH CRYSTAL

What makes you feel proud?

Growing my marketing business to where it is today has made me proud. I have one part-time and two full-time employees, and our clientele grows each year! I love educating my community and clients, and when I see them actually implement that education, I feel incredibly proud! Additionally, I take great pride in being a mom, especially alongside my husband, Steven. I struggle with chronic illness which for the longest time prohibited me from having kids. I’ve done a lot of work to take care of myself and manage my symptoms, and Steven has been by my side every step of the way. I’m proud to say I now have a healthy, sweet boy, and I’ve been proud to watch my husband grow into an incredible father.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope I am more patient with myself. I hope that I have learned how to treat myself with the same respect and kindness that I have when interacting with others. I struggle to give myself grace and hold myself to impossible standards.

What keeps you up at night?

The endless cycle of ideas that I have for creating my life’s legacy. I feel an incredible amount of pressure to provide for my children in a big way and create a legacy for them that sets them up for future success. I want to create more opportunities for them than I had so they can truly create their dream lives. I am always brainstorming and working through big ideas in my mind for how to make this happen. I want to use my skills and talents to help small businesses grow, but at the same time, do this in a way that provides for my family.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Having children. I have battled chronic migraines since I was nine and have worked so hard in my adult life to heal my body and my trauma around chronic pain. We finally crossed a big finish line when Grayson was born, but the battle is ongoing.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. It was my dad’s famous saying when I was in high school. I was a perfectionist and an over achiever, again holding myself to an impossible standard. This phrase pops into my mind on a weekly basis as a reminder of where to truly focus my energy.
