Rachel Findley
What makes Rachel Wildly Capable?
Rachel goes above and beyond every day in service of vulnerable animals in the state of Oklahoma. As the VP of Development for Oklahoma Humane Society, Rachel devotes her time at work to raising money and awareness for dogs and cats in need, but she lives that mission after hours, too. Rachel fosters neonate kittens and has saved countless lives over the years. She is a true hero!” TIFFANY LEA MAGILL
What makes you feel proud?
I’m proud to be part of an organization that is making a quantifiable difference in our community’s animal population. The project I’m probably most proud of is OK Humane’s annual Yule Log video. I love the holiday season and wanted to create something that served as a thank you to the community for their support throughout the year while also encouraging donations to OK Humane. The OK Humane Yule Log showcases rescue pups and kittens playing in front of a magical fireplace scene, set to music by local musicians. We’re often asking the community for help to save sick or injured animals, so I think it’s really important to highlight our successes with this video.
What keeps you up at night?
Quite literally, kittens! If I am fostering newborn kittens, they need to be bottle-fed every few hours throughout the night. That only lasts a few weeks though, and I treasure my sleep when I can get it. If my foster kittens are old enough to sleep through the night, almost nothing will keep me from my sleep!
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Trying to find balance. When people say, “you can do anything but not everything,” I feel imprudently defiant of that. I want to do everything and can easily find myself in a state of overwhelm by trying to do too many things at once. It’s an ongoing struggle, but I have seen the benefits of conserving my energy for the people and things most important to me and now try to be more mindful of what I commit to.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
You will be most successful when your work is in alignment with the things that light you up. No matter what that is, you will feel the most fulfilled and purposeful when you’re dedicating your time and energy to things you find interesting or feel passionate about.
