What makes Raasheda Wildly Capable?
Raasheda is a mom of four and an incredible artist and community activist. I am inspired by the way she balances these roles so well and with such elegance. She seems unflappable. LINDSAY ZODROW
What makes you feel proud?
I feel proud of how my growth and love continues to blossom. I focus on being positive and present which enables me to show up better in this world for myself and others. My four children are my biggest blessing and each day they make me proud to watch them grow into amazing people.
What keeps you up at night?
My regrets, failures, and to-do list. Sometimes my mind wonders how I can learn from my mishaps, or what I could change to be better. I think about how I can make sure my children are loved and cared for. However, I’ve learned how to harness the days when my mind keeps me up into something productive. That’s how I begin working on things throughout the late night and early mornings between 3 and 5 a.m.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
My biggest obstacle is navigating motherhood while still growing as an individual. I’ve had to sacrifice myself, career choices, and some of my desires for what’s best for them. Learning how to be true to myself and putting my own life in the forefront while simultaneously trying to be there for others is a challenge.
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
I’d like to encourage the use of the arts and creativity to help with mental health, social, and economic problems. Art can be a form of therapy and a way of expressing one’s emotions and feelings. Creative thinking helps us understand different perspectives and we can use those to help with any situation that arises.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
We only have now – the present moment. The future isn’t guaranteed. That forces me to remember that if today is my last on this Earth, I’ll live it out of love. It allows me to be more intentional about my actions and thoughts and live for today instead of focusing on tomorrow.
