What does your typical day look like?
During the week, I get up early and head to work as an administrative assistant at Oklahoma Christian Academy. I get to love on the students and their families. I am the first person they see, so I send them to their classrooms with a hug and a smile. After school, I am often found at my granddaughter’s softball games, or spending time with my husband, Mick, and my puppy, Jasper. My faith in God is extremely important to me so I am often helping at North Church on weekends or spending time with my family.
What keeps you up at night?
That I will not fulfill the mission God has for me. I do not want to miss a step. Did I overlook someone I should have helped? Also, the state of the world with the news of such desperate need and brokenness. There seems to be a lack of strong morals, high values, and sincere love for others... these things can cause me to pause. Perhaps that is what keeps me going as a dedicated mentor, wife, mom, and Meme.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My mother and grandmothers were my greatest influencers. Watching them face life head on —and sometimes doing it afraid — taught me how to pray, to have grit, to be consistent, and to love deeply. Answers to life’s question were not always easy for them to find, but they believed if they trusted God and leaned on others who had more wisdom to assist them, they would make it!
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope I will be thinking less of myself and my wants and more about Christ and how to serve others. I want to love others more and see them as God sees them. I long to sharpen the gifts He has given to me and use them for His glory at home, at church, and at work.
What advice do you wish you could give your younger self? How might it have changed your course?
Please, love and accept the person God made you to be. He doesn’t make mistakes! Make as many connections with people as you can. Build relationships and learn to show empathy, kindness, and respect in every situation to every person. If I had known this at a young age, perhaps I would have influenced more people to love Christ, love themselves and others, and follow Jesus’ example.
