DesJean Peyton-Jones

There is power in just waking up every day excited to pursue the work that’s right in front of you. DesJean is a living, breathing example of that power.

What makes you feel proud?

Knowing that God loves me and that He trusts me. So, I let Him use me...and I try not to complain too much about it. I have finally found the merging of who I am with what I am and it’s incredible. In business, in ministry and in personal life, I am becoming more relaxed and patient with myself. I am an unashamed, unapologetic Christian, Black woman who is a lover of humanity. It is my complete goal to share every gift I have with the world and return to heaven spent!

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

Besides my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my Mom. She is the epitome of women everywhere and she is everything I need at the right season in my life. A true ride or die chick!

“I have finally found the merging of who I am with what I am and it’s incredible.”

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Learning to let others get to know me without being afraid that they won’t like who they find. I think I’m finally getting there.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope that I am in love with a partner who sees me...and likes it!

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

I would like to increase equity in my community. A place in which Black people in Oklahoma can feel like they “belong” in the places where they are not typically seen. And where they feel like they can start businesses, acquire property, branch out and just be.
