What makes you feel proud?

My family is my biggest accomplishment. I’ve been married to the same man for 31 years (most of them good) and we have two artistic and loving daughters. I am grateful for our faith community and am proud that I eventually graduated from college in my 30s and have worked hard in my career to be of service to others.

What keeps you up at night?

Not much. I’m really good at sleeping and not worrying! If I am worried about something, it’s usually personal or family issues, but I get up and read through my Book of Common Prayer to calm back down and the next thing you know, it’s morning and I have another fresh start to be grateful for.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My mother, who everyone knows as Mama Nancy. She is a hug waiting to happen. She is a retired professor who started several programs at her college in Texas, but she is always loving and caring to all, and she’s smart as a whip!

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Myself. Sometimes I walk around the block to get next door, meaning I do things the hard way and get distracted easily instead of just finishing what I started.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I am sure I’ll be much smarter because I learn something new every day, so there’s nowhere to go but up! I also believe that when we practice gratitude, it makes us better all the time, so that’s a gift I try to give myself daily and put out in the universe.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

I do not have a solution for this per se, but I feel in the current political climate there is so much misinformation, disinformation, and hateful speech being spewed All I can do is not be the one doing that. I can also remind people in my circle of influence to try to keep open minds and not insist their view is 100 percent right or that others are 100 percent wrong. Usually, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
