Ashley Simpson

What makes Ashley Wildly Capable?

Ashley is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. Many of the kids she works with at Cavett Kids may not make it to adulthood. Still, she pours her heart into her work and makes their lives better just by being her. - ALYSSA WEATHERS-MURPHY

What makes you feel proud?

It makes me feel proud to see my hard work paying off as the organization grows and thrives. I love seeing more kids be able to enjoy their childhood through the memories of summer camp. I love being able to bless a family with emergency support during a time of great stress. It makes me happy to see our programs grow and expand. It makes my heart even happier that people would give their own money to make a complete stranger’s life better.

What keeps you up at night?

The things that keep me up at night are the random ideas that pop into my head of something fun or new we should do! The fear and excitement of fundraising. And the frantic thoughts of “Oh shoot, did I make that grant deadline?” or “Did I call that person back?” or “Am I remembering everything I said I would do?”

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

A year from now I hope I am more understanding, more compassionate, more generous, and that I listen more than I speak. I also hope that I continue to work for God’s glory and not the praise or criticism of others. So often, the words from our peers or people surrounding us can hurt or carry with us. It’s been tough but I’m getting better and remembering whose words to live by. I am here to impress nobody. I am here to live out my purpose.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Every day you have the opportunity to choose happy. I think this has made me happier in my personal life and at work. Things will never go as I planned, but I have the opportunity every single day to choose to be happy and see the positive, or to be stuck in my own pity and anger.
